Open Thread

Since we have to sign in to the blog with the editors e-mail in order to make posts, it looks like our business here will be done in the comments section.
Possible Topics:

When is the speaker coming?-I believe this is James B and someone else's group. If anyone has any information or has talked to Lubling about dates, let them know here.

How much money are we shooting for in the fundraiser?- Annie needs this info.

Ideas on how to get the word out on our endeavor- I'm sure Lee would appreciate any ideas on that.

Anything else you guys/girls can think of can go here or I can start a new, focused post if it gets crowded in this comment section.

  2. After all of the commenting business is sorted out-
definately spreading word via Facebook is a great idea, acquiring a post on e-net, and finding the best method for professors (philosophy in particular) to spread the word to their classes.

I've got a few ideas regarding photography and sketches to incorporate- though it might require a hiking trip or two. If any of the people working on the artistic aspect of the book need help or want to shoot around ideas, please shoot me an email (krhodes@elon.edu).

  4. Though cedarock is the closest, I'm thinking Oconeechee or Duke Forest. Most likely Friday or Saturday after easter. Anyone who wants to join is welcome, I will definately be driving and towing cameras and notebooks. Just shoot an e-mail on your preferred date/time commitment and we can get some of nature's inspiration. If nothing else, it will be a good time outdoors and an opportunity to shoot around ideas and have philosophical conversations.

  5. can someone help explain emerson's relation to pluralism... i feel like sometimes he is all about it but sometimes he is all like... im not platonic

  6. platonists are dualists. pluralism is in direct opposition to plato's idea of good/evil, body/mind splits.

  7. I sent out a few emails to people I know who do a lot of photography, art and poetry (some have been in colonnades, some just art majors, some not at elon) asking them to e-mail me anything they find appropriate. perhaps in a few weeks a couple people from the class could get together with all of the art submitted to vote on favorites- entry priority being class members, then submissions from others. let me know if this sounds like a good idea and we can plan a time/place... anybody on the art committee can feel free to talk to me about this.

Hey guys. Anne got back to me about how much the philosophy department can give for publishing. She said they can give $300. In order to get the money, I just need to make a meeting with her regarding all the publisher's details. Would someone be able to send me this information? I wanted to meet with her as soon as possible. Probably Tuesday or Wednesday this week.
For fundraising, this means that we'll have to raise roughly $500 more if the total cost is $800. Also, I think Zach is going to be posting soon about the speaker. Lubling's friend can come in the end of April. Basically, this means we have to hold Moe's night real soon...probably next week. Is that possible. Just let me know about the publisher details so that I can set up a meeting for that.
    Thanks,
    Kristy

  9. Alright guys, Kevin here, busting the party...

Damn I knew the department was fucking poor but not that poor. We're looking at more like a $1000 needed in fundraising, which is probably not going to happen, since Zach said the speaker is going to look something like 500 bucks prior to air fare. So much for a free speech. So it's looking like a combination of Moe's charity and class donations, or I'm just going to front for this shit. At the moment if publishing is 800 and the speaker+airfare is 700 (and this is assuming flights are cheap) then we are looking at a deficit of $1200 solid following the Philosophy Dept. donation. Damn. I'll talk to Lubling about this on Tuesday.

Hopefully Nick Sharrer can get the publishing details to you asap Kristy.

    Kevin
